“Local food is about getting the freshest and best-tasting food. It’s also about connecting to and strengthening your community” ~ Anne Lappe
It is not very often we get the chance to spend a day on the weekend to search for new and interesting things that are happening in the Mary Valley and surrounding areas. So we took the opportunity on a beautiful Saturday to get out and see what was going on around the Mary Valley.
Our first stop was at Melsted Park, a beautiful little farm and with their very own Farm Shop – who could resist. Melsted Park is located on 317 Lawnville Road, Black Mountain and they sell a range of poultry products and farm fresh pastured eggs as well as a range of other local producers products. You can also grab a cup of coffee and a light snack whilst taking in the breathtaking scenery and wander through the vegetable gardens or have a look at the growing young chicks every Saturday from 8:00am – 11.00am.
Next on the list was Bellbird Creek Cafe located at 8 Jubilee Road, Carters Ridge. The café sells a range of meals for breakfast and lunch with outdoor seating overlooking a lovely outdoor space. There is also a park across the road for the kids. Whilst at the café check out the local produce for sale and keep an eye out for the very popular pizza nights. Opening hours 9am to 4pm on weekdays (closed Tuesday and Wednesday) and 7am to 4pm on weekends.
After the Bellbird Creek Café and it was a quick drive to the Mary Valley State College for the Bee Open Day where everything “bee” was explained or for purchase. It was fantastic to see so many people attending and supporting our local bee community.
Perfect timing for a bite to eat and off to One2One on Yabba café located at 121 Yabba Road, Imbil. The café is newly renovated and offers lovely light meals, cold drinks and excellent coffee in a relaxed environment. The café also offers a range of paintings, books and other items that are for sale…. so spend some time and have a look around. The cafe is also located close to the park for the kids and other local shops for a quick browse. Opening hours Thursday – Sunday from 9am to 4pm.
With lunch done and dusted we did a quick drive out to the Borumba Dam …
… with beautiful scenery along the way …
… and back home through Mitchell Creek Road and over the range into Melawondi for a little sight seeing and photo opportunities!
Stay tuned for more exciting adventures of places to see and explore plus things to do and events in our beautiful region!
